Oatmeal is hands-down one of my very favourite breakfasts! It’s so versatile and delicious… in the winter, it’s the perfect thing to warm you up on cold mornings; in the summer, it’s tasty and refreshing. I’m pretty lazy, so I make my oatmeal in the microwave… but feel free to try these out if you make yours on the stove, too!
Here are some of my tried-and-true toppings… I generally start out with about a tablespoonful of brown sugar, and then add extra tasties from there!
- Blueberries & coconut – You can definitely use frozen berries; just add them to the oatmeal before cooking.
- Apples & cinnamon – I cook the apples a little bit beforehand so they’re nice and soft.
- Fresh raspberries – I got these on sale one day to add to my oatmeal, and they were absolutely delicious all by themselves!
- Bananas & coconut – You can spice this one up with some cinnamon and craisins, too.
Another tasty trick I’ve discovered is subbing mashed banana for one of the parts of water. So, instead of having one part oats, two parts water, you mix one part oats into one part banana and one part water… it’s really, really, yummy, and you don’t need any added sugar! Plus, you can add all of your favourite oatmeal toppings to this base as well.
